Access Arrangements
Access arrangements allow young people with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access assessments and show what they know and can do without changing the demands of the assessment. The Equality Act 2010 requires that a “school make reasonable adjustments where a disabled person would be at a substantial disadvantage in undertaking an assessment”.
Centre-based arrangements include: rest breaks, prompts, reader and the use of a laptop.
There are other arrangements, such as extra time, that the SEN Department will need to make an application for. The College will need to provide evidence for any access arrangements that are put in place. Please contact the SEN Department if you need further advice with this.
LSAs are heavily involved in providing Access Arrangements for Years 11 and 13 during the exam season. This happens 3 times per year and some in-class support / provisions will be disrupted as a result of this:
-
November (2 weeks) – Year 11 and 13 Trial Exams
-
March (2 weeks) – Year 11 and 13 Trial Exams
-
May / June – Year 11 and 13 GCSE and A-level Exam Season
