Combined Cadet Forces

In January 2023, Kingsthorpe College were delighted to launch the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Army section to the extra-curricular opportunities. The CCF is a partnership between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and schools, creating a unique and incredible opportunity for young people to develop self-discipline, courage, respect for others, integrity, loyalty and commitment. It also helps develop communication skills, confidence, being part of a team, giving a sense of pride and achievement.

CCF training is split over parade days, field days and occasional weekend camps and courses concluding with an end of year summer camp. Cadets follow the CCF Army Cadet Syllabus and learn Military skills and knowledge following a training programme which focuses on

  • Military Knowledge
  • Drill and Turnout
  • Skill at Arms
  • Shooting
  • Navigation
  • Fieldcraft
  • First Aid
  • Expedition and adventurous training

As cadets progress through the stages of the syllabus they will gain badges and certificates for their achievements and qualifications. By being part the CCF, cadets have the opportunity to get involved with charitable work and volunteer in the community to gain nationally recognised qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and St John’s First aid Certificate. Cadets can begin their cadet experience in the CCF from year 9 and can continue into sixth form, where there will be many leadership opportunities available to them.

Parade nights are held weekly on a Thursday from 3.30pm – 4.45pm.
