Post 16 student's focus on future career plans

Students in years 12 and 13 have had a variety of talks recently about all the different options to them available in the future.

Firstly, following on from the careers fair held at the beginning of March in the main hall, Gareth Brobbin, Talent and Diversity Recruitment Manager at Ricoh was kind enough to come back to Kingsthorpe College to speak to Post 16 students about the many opportunities offered at his company.  Gareth spoke in depth about what Ricoh does and the many different job roles involved in the organisation, and students were impressed to see just how many companies and organisations Ricoh work with (the NHS, Transport for London, Vodaphone, BP, Boots, to name just a few!).  Gareth ended the talk by showing students just how varied the apprenticeship opportunities are at Ricoh; including software developer, customer services, marketing, human resources, and sales.  Students can contact Gareth directly if they have any further questions about opportunities at Ricoh.

Students have also been treated to two talks on university life by former students recently. Ellie Morgan returned to Kingsthorpe College to speak to our Gifted and Talented students about life at Oxford University; the application process, succeeding at interview, what daily life is like at such a prestigious institution.  A day later Lauren Byrne spoke to the whole of year 12 about her experience of studying at the University of Leeds, which by all accounts has ended up being very successful after a difficult start! Lauren spoke about the challenges of moving away from home and learning in a whole new way, and then the many wonderful experiences that university life can offer.

Students in Post 16 have access to Unifrog – the fantastic careers service that the college invests in which can help students plan their future pathways whether they are focused on university or apprenticeships.  All students have been given a login and training, and parents were also shown how to use this at information evening at the start of year 12. Please contact the Post 16 team for more information on this if you would like to know more.
